I am looking for a Guatemalan Restaurant

I had a killer tamal from a Guatemalan bakery out in Riverside which has made me in turn want to get an education in the cuisine by eating at some restaurants. Any reccomendations for restaurants and respective dishes?

  1. Sadly enough I think good Guatemalen restaurants are something lacking in this city. Why do I say this? Well one of my best pals is of Guatemalen descent, and she constantly whines about the lack of decent restaurants in the city. In fact it seems the only good food you can find is homemade(I've been lucky to dine over). If you ever are lucky to find a place though, I'd recommend this plate called "reyenitos"(I'm not sure if this is the right spelling). They're these deep fried platain balls, filled with sweetened black beans.

      1. Yes, Guatemalteca is the place to go according to my Guatemalan friends. It is nothing fancy, just a steam table with some tables inside a small market. Definitely get their chuchitos (their version of the chicken tamale) which are the best. Also, their black beans are really good. Hell, try anything!
