Upscale Lobster Dinner (SF)

Anyone have any advice? This is a yearly tradition -- I take my parents to an all-out feast and my mom loves lobster. This will be the first one up in the Bay Area, but in years past have done Morton's and The Palm.

What do you recommend? Also, the bigger the lobster the better. For example, The Palm in LA let's you call ahead and order 4-5 pounders...

Thanks!

Morton's has a 3 or so pound lobster on their menu. I would wait until May though for the price to setttle a bit, the season is closed in Maine, the stocks are quite low and prices are higher than they have ever been.

Although I never eat lobster in California, and seldom order it in restaurants, I would not recommend any lobster over two lbs. Strictly for high rolling make a big impression saps like my brother. They start getting tough at that size. In New England the large lobsters cost less per pound than" chickens" or "selects". Bigger is not always better.

Check with the Tadich Grill (240 California St., SF) to see what kind of lobster they offer. Tadich is an old-school SF seafood house and has a vibe most parents would enjoy.
