Great little WAKEFIELD restaurant -- can't find thread
So sorry, just remembered it's in Wakefield. Somewhere near North Avenue there's supposed to be a Greek place? or Fish? Can't find the thread. Does anyone remember? TIA, once again.

re: chompie
I didn't say anything about the clams because I had to go the takeout route that night. You are right - they are very nice people and I know they would have been very accommodating if I brought it up. I didn't hold it against them one bit because I know how committed they are to providing the best product. It probably was just reflected the quality of clams they were able to get that day. I'm looking forward to returning there,

Went to Zalek's just last night. I started based on recommendations here and it was my 3'd trip in 2 weeks. Everything we've had there has been very, very good and a real value with just one exception. I tried the small fried clams last night and they were virtually inedible. Tiny and chewy. With that aside, I can join the chorus here and say the baked fish is fresh and done perfectly; the seafood pie is enough for two; shrimp over rice - excellent, and even the burger is very good. I'll be back there this week.

I have been several times, fish and chips are FANTASTIC (Brit dc I was with couldn't believe how good they were!), onion rings, fish specials, wraps...made my own from one a regular ordered, grilled shrimp, roasted peppers and spring salad mix (their pita is very fresh and good), oysters, Greek plate, and recently salmon over salad that was excellent. I've reviewed Zalek's several times if you want to check the past threads.

re: 4chowpups
Went tonight. I had the baked scallops -- wonderfully fresh, great crumb topping. Tons of 'em, too. Came with OK slaw and yucky frozen onion rings. I was actually really surprised at the O-rings. Assumed they would be hand cut and fresh. Husband had the greek plate, good gyro.

re: Trixie Too
Oops, sorry you didn't like the O rings, I love them even though they are frozen because I like the batter...often I find fresh ones to be horribly bland and limp. I am glad you liked the rest however and I hope that people will try them out~I am always excited to find an independent restaurant that puts out a great product and I'd want to see them overcome the "chain mentality" that is so prevalent out there!!!

re: Trixie Too
Wow, Zalecks posts everywhere ! I just wrote it up on the thread above on lunch near Woburn! I am a diehard Zalecks fan too, but onion rings arent my fave type either but everything else is. When you search it here do Zalek and Zaleck cuz its written here both ways. I also love the Brit style fish and chips (although would also love to see hand cut fries, but I love the fish batter) Any of the daily fish specials are great. I dont eat meat so I get the gyro with shrimp. Its a real treat. The grilled shrimp is great with any of the salads. It always tastes and smells like summer in there

re: Big Momma
I wouldn't say the gyro are "great" but they are good and for the whole plate~greek salad, gyro, grape leaves...about $5.95 it's a deal. For WONDERFUL gyro etc. get down to Norwood to Cedars store...best deal ever and fabulous sandwiches and other middle eastern stuff, lots of prepared foods and all that I tried was great.
