Toronto 'hound looking for a specific restaurant

TorontoJo Mar 22, 2007 07:33 AM

Years ago, I had several great meals at a gorgeous restaurant that I cannot for the life of me recall the name of. It was housed in a gorgeous gold rush era building -- the interior was 2 stories high, with 2nd floor seating around the perimeter of one side. I seem to recall that the building was a speakeasy or bank once upon a time. The entrance to the restaurant was on the tiniest little street that I think was called Gold St.

Can anyone help me in identifying this restaurant? Name? Is it still open? If so, is it still good?

That's the one, thank you! Have you been there recently? Still worth a visit?

Bix is always pretty consistent. My friend recently ended up there because another place screwed up a reservation and they were able to be seated right away. The comment was it was as good as always.

I have not been recently, as I seem to end up at Scott Howard when I am in that neighborhood. I still send friends over for what I consider to be a classy, classic San Francisco environment with good food, good drinks, and a nice vibe.

I was just at Bix last month after many years. Good food, good drinks and good atmosphere... same as it ever was!
