Looking for fun place to take my work team

JoLi Mar 22, 2007 06:27 AM

Hi - I'm looking for a fun and nice place to take my work team out to dinner. Tab should be tops $100/person including food/drinks/tip. We are coming in from Grand Central station so somewhere on the east side of the island would be nice, but not required. One person is vegetarian (so steakhouses not options) and some steer away from too exotic.

Any suggestions?

    1) do a search of the boards. There have been many, many requests like this.
    2) how many people in your group?
    3) Does a good wine list matter? Are your people more into cocktails?
    4) Does fun count more than food?
    5) Think about who makes up your team, rather than just in terms of there's one vegetarian. How many steer away from "exotic"? An overwhelming number of your group?

Be as specific as possible when asking for suggestions. Better yet, read the boards, do some research, and then ask specific questions about the pros/cons of places you're considering. You may get more informed, useful help that way.

Understand. I did do a search and couldn't find anything recent.

Was thinking more of a brainstorming session, and getting people to name one place to jog my memory. I do go out a lot but for some reason am drawing a blank on a good place.

Please help me by jotting down the name of the first restaurant that comes to mind when reading my description.

Ethos, the Greek restaurant, is on 3rd, b/t 33rd & 34th. Lots of delicious hot and cold mezzes to share. Excellent grilled whole fresh fish + many other very tasty choices on the menu. The attractive taverna-like setting has a convivial feel.

Barbounia, on the corner of Park Av. S. & 20th St., serves very good Mediterranean cuisine. Mezzes for sharing, grilled fish and meat + other options. Huge space with very glitzy decor and an upbeat vibe.

Dos Caminos and Artisinal are both great for groups.

What about a place like Bowlmor or the Golf Club at Chelsea Piers? May not be the culinary experience you're looking for but either place has fun activities that encourage teamwork/bonding, and you can always get beers and burgers. The Chelsea Brewing Co. is right next to the Golf Club, and Bowlmor has eating areas right in the building. Just a different option for you to consider.

you might want to consider Cibo on about 41st and 2nd. food is solid and there is a good value prefix of 30$$ pp for 3 courses- drinks/ tax / tip extra- even if dont use prefix ( i believe available every night), you should be okay $$wise. I've been there with groups as well and always been happy

Check out Citrus on the upper westside. They will set up a prefixe menu for your and cater to larger groups.

You can also try the communal table at Asia de Cuba. They too will create a menu for you.

            Lastly, PIPA (tapas

I like the Artisanal rec too, Great french bistro and good for groups.

Question, how serious is the vegetarian? Do they eat fish? Because if they do, just go to the Oyster Bar. http://www.oysterbarny.com You're coming in from Grand Central anyways and I've heard many many many good things about it, what could be easier?

How about Asia de Cuba? Good place for a group, fun, lots of options for vegetarians and meat-eaters.
