Things have not gone well for The Russian Tea Room since it re-opened. It got a royal panning from all the major food critics, the executive chef was fired, and reports are that the place is like a tomb. eater has it on "Deathwatch." You can read all about the catastrophic happenings here: http://eater.com/search.php?blogs=4&query=The+Russian+Tea+Room

I had lunch there 2 months ago. I would avoid it. I think its on its last legs and will be converted to an event space. It has a very weird vibe, service is poor and food is iffy. It had a sense of doom. You could feel the tension in the air. If you really want to go, have a few drinks.

Yeah...But, once was enough. The RTR has some serious issues to iron out for me to return. Funny, my gf who didnt know much of its history and first time there is head over heels over the place and is dying to go back. Not wanting to burst her bubble I told her" lets wait until Xmas, its really special then".. Im keeping my fingers crossed it wont survive that long.
