Best Liquor Stores Near Lower Manhattan - See Inside For Specific Needs

My local Bronx liquor store was missing some things I want to get, so I was hoping someone w/ knowledge of lower to Midtown Manhattan can clue me in on where to go. I work near City Hall and take the 6 if that helps any.

I'm looking for:
-Apple Schnapps (not sour apple like DeKupyer, but regular apple. I only know of a German brand called Apfel Korn)

-Mint Simple Syrup (for Mojitos, to replace the trouble of wasting mint leaves since I don't think I'll be drinking them enough to warrant the size of the packages I find at the grocery)

  1. Astor Wine is your best bet. They have a huge selection and carry Apfel Korn and it's within a few blocks of the 6 train at Astor.

Don't know if they have mint simple syrup but i've found that stuff in a number of grocery stores, including dean & deluca which is by the 6 at spring.

Thank You Stefanie!!!! Hopefully my Apple Martinis will be much better now :)

    2. Astor is okay, but for such basic items, the Wine Warehouse on Broadway, right around the corner from Astor, is even better. They're cheaper and they have a huge selection of liquors and mixers.

BTW, make your own mint simple syrup, it's really, really easy, much less expensive, and much better tasting!

1 1/2 cups packed fresh mint leaves
      1 cup sugar
      1 cup water

Chop mint. In a saucepan bring sugar, water and mint to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Simmer syrup, undisturbed, 2 minutes. Pour syrup through a fine sieve, pressing hard on solids, and cool. Syrup keeps, covered and chilled, 2 weeks.
