Flushing' s Corner 28 and the "Chinese Danny Meyer"

Just found out today that Corner 28 is owned by the same gent who owns my favorite shopping center Viet/Thai place, Mekong (seriously underrated by Chowhounds; I'm always amazed by this) as well as Prince Street's NanXiang XiaoLongBao, Canton Gourmet, Pho, Green Papaya and a few other places whose names escape me at moment. This guy is all over the place with two other places in the works. My friend says he will be the "Danny Meyer of the Asian world." I love it! I also found it interesting that the Peking Duck bao is a separate business not affiliated with Corner 28.

Now if only this guy can bring a really good bahn mi to Flushing/Bayside. His son, the owner of Mekong, swears it can't be done b/c of a problem with authentic bread suppliers, but I have no doubt he can be persuaded.

All Things Delish,
lisa

I wish I could persuade this gentleman, whoever he may be, to get the lady from the former Mai Xiang Tan (who made the best Sichuan, yes, Sichuan Baos that no one in Flushing has ever before and since her place) to be a chef somewhere new. Last time I ran into her in NanXiang Xiao LongBao as a customer, I asked what she's up to now, and she said she was either a governess or ..baby sitting. That was sad. All that great food not available to us.....

It was on Prince between Roosevelt and 40 Rd. The location is now a northeastern Chinese food restaurant.

I have to apologize for my chinese phoentic back then...those were my pre-Mainland China visit/crash course days. I knew how to speak and read Chinese, but being from Taiwan I rarely used China's PinYin rules before my first visit in 2004.

And while we're at it the dumpling chef at the original Dumpling House (house of 100 dumplings) should have his own show:

I agree that the people on here underrate Mekong. The food is fantastic. My brother who is a big fan of Pho Bang thought so too.

I can't wait for them to expand into the Chinese take-out place they purchased next door- in the past few months I've actually had to wait for a table three times! Great green curry soup, tom yum, vermicelli bowls with grilled chicken/shrimp and sauteed greens. I love that place! It's a twice a week lunch place for us.
