Cru vs Eleven Madison Park

Me and my SO are trying to decide between these two for our one year anniversary dinner. We are in our late twenties and want the best combination of food and atmosphere for our night out. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. Cru is a bit more fine dining, and I prefer it. The new chef (Humm) has brought 11mp back from a boring decline, but it still is a big Danny Meyer room. I think Cru is a better bet for a special occaison for some late-20s folks. Their wine list is rediculous as well, but I thought the food was exceptional.

cru, cru, a thousand times cru. perfect for a special evening. my boyfriend and i (both in our late twenties) celebrated an anniversary there six months ago and we still recall the tasting menu as one of the best meals we've had in new york in the past few years....

we went to EMP a couple of months ago, and thoroughly enjoyed a few of our dishes, and thought the service was gracious...i'd definitely go back at some point. but overall, especially considering that the two are comparably priced, we had a better time at cru, found the atmosphere more intimate, and thought the entire meal was off the hook, not just a few standout dishes.

      enjoy either way...

    2. EMP for sure. I have eaten there twice in the last month and both meals were very good. The roast duck for two is out of this world. Service is good too.
Ate at Cru in February and was not impressed. Service wasn't great. Highlights of the meal were cheese and the wine. Wine list was incredible.
For an overall experience I recommend EMP hands down - it is a beautiful room too.

I like EMP (although I've never dined at Cru). I'v dined at EMP a few times, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants.
