Birthday lunch for boss

I promised to take my boss to lunch for his birthday. Oh boy. I need an kinda upscale, but not too pricey, good looking, great food, decent wines, vegetarian and/or fin fish friendly, on the exotic side restaurant, not too far from midtown. Something Indian perhaps? Not asking too much am I!

I would recommend Mint (50th b/t Lex & 3rd) for the food, decor, service and modern ambiance, and Bay Leaf mostly for the food (56th b/t 5th & 6th). Both Indian. Bay Leaf is much more traditional and has a lunch buffet (you can opt for menus if you'd rather not do the buffet). Mint seems more upscale.

I would forgo Bay Leaf - seems a bit pedestrian/non upscale to me ... meal I had there was decent, but not boss birthday celebration worthy IMHO.

Chola for Indian! Fun drinks, wonderful well seasoned dishes, including fish, vegetarian, upscale, can be a bit loud. On 58th.

Dawat is one of the city's best Indian restaurants...the service is impeccable. It's on 58th between 2nd/3rd.

What about Pampano - upscale Mexican food - good fish dishes, in midtown. Nice terrace if the weather is good.
