hot italian heroes

is it possible to get a good hot italian hero in the west village? I'm from brooklyn and to find a good chicken parm, eggplant parm, meatball etc is very hard to come by. If anyone knows of a pizzeria around morton (hudson) that would be terrific!

  1. I like Lenny's. A new branch just opened on 9th St. and 6th Ave. Love their chicken cutlet sandwiches.

thanks. I know lenny's very well and I do love their sandwiches, BUT that's not what I'm looking for. I am looking for italian style with sauce and cheese.....thanks tho

    2. The best place I can think of is Abbondanzas on Bleecker near 6th Ave. Fantastic Italian heroes!

I Just looked them up. It doesn't seem like they have HOT heroes tho...but it does look good and will have to grab a take menu when I passby this weekend. Do they slice their cold cuts nice and thin?

They will toast your sandwiches in the pizza oven if you ask them to. Pesto spread is very good. It's more of the sum of the parts than any individual part that makes the sandwich good.

I really don't think you'll be sorry if you hit up Abbondanzas, and yes, they do have HOT heroes!

Check this before you go. I don't believe they have hot subs...just excellent (A+++) cold subs.

Lazarra's near Port Authority is a hidden, weird looking, second floor restaurant that lets you take out their terrific subs. Can vouch for the Chik Parm, Meatball, and sausage+peppers.

          2. Have you tried Tutto Bene right on Hudson between Barrow and Morton. Not the world's greatest heroes, but they'll get the job done. I am a fan of their pizza, however - my favorite in the neighborhood.

I think Rivoli (Hudson and Christopher) beats them by a nose, pizzawise. But I've never had the subs at Tutto.

i know this is further but i think manganaro's (hero boy) is still around...? 9th ave & 30's

Hero Boy is still around, but it is not the best option in the area. Much better hot subs at Lazarra's on 38th btw 7th and 8th.
