L'ANGELO CAFE downtown, anyone... anyone??

I've heard so much about this place and it's right around the corner from me but I'm pretty sure they're only open during fashion district hours and all the locals are out of luck for dinner and weekend eating...............I think??

Anyone know the menu, website, what's good etc. I can't find info on Google.
Pretty sure it's next to wood spoon on 9th near Spring St.

  1. As far as I know, L'Angelo is actually not downtown where you think it is; I'm pretty sure it's on Melrose (Melrose & Highland?). Could you be thinking of Angelique Cafe on Main/Spring between 8th and 9th?

Funny I just saw L'Angolo Cafe last night on my way home.

    2. The spelling of the name is: L'Angolo

There is a restaurant called L'Angolo at the corner of 9th and spring, and next door to Woodspoon. I have only eaten at L'Angolo once and it was serviceable. I just had a Cobb salad so I can't really offer a fair review. To my knowledge, they are not open for dinner. The owner seemed very nice. The menu did seem a bit odd. They specialize in italian pasta and seafood.

I just discovered the Persian restaurant on 9th and Hill. It's called Shekarchi and they are now open until 8 pm on weekdays. It's in the old May company parking garage (which is getting a million dollar facelift). I have not eaten there yet, but plan to soon. I spoke to the owner's son and he was very affable. Apparently, they have been there for 14 years and just recently decided to try staying open for dinner. In googling the place, I found that it got very favorable reviews and is seemingly "the" place for persian businessmen to have lunch in downtown.

      2. Looking at the menu now, which they recently faxed over to the office...

They've got various broiled and grilled fish dishes, brochettes, fish tacos, pastas with chicken/grilled vegetables/sausage/shimp/clams, eggplant and chicken parm, salads, soups, sandwiches and more.

          Weebie thanks!
With all of us moving into the eastern I hope they start closing later and hopefully weekends.
9&B I'll check out the Persian place too, thanks!

I just moved into the Eastern Columbia as well. Or maybe you could tell from my screen name.

Anyway, glad to see a fellow foodie in the building.

No problem afs and welcome to Downtown (if you're new to the area.) You too 9th and B'way... You guys have a lot going on as far newish chow spots over there on 9th (L'Angolo, Wood Spoon, Tiara) and old ones changing their hours to accomodate us all (Shekarchi, New Moon, Angelique, etc). Please keep the rest of us downtowners posted on the immediate area over there.

Are New Moon and Angelique changing their hours?

I had brunch at Angelique a couple weeks ago and the waitress didn't seem to know much about the hours. I love the area so far. I am a big fan of Tiara and Wood Spoon.

                1. re: 9thandBroadway

Sorry. Just referring to the fact that Angelique recently announced that they will be open on Sundays. Not too sure about the New Moon specifics.

What do you recommend at Wood Spoon? Don't get over there as much as I'd like. It's a great little spot.

          2. L'Angolo has good grilled fish. They also have cane soda (always a plus in my book).

Unfortunately, it's sort of a hike for me to get there during lunch and when I am in that neck of the woods, I always opt instead for Wood Spoon and the pork burger.

Been to L'Angolo a couple of times; tasty and serviceable, although not earth-shattering (sometimes a working man just wants LUNCH for Chrisakes!). Didn't seem very busy either time, at peak lunch hours; can't imagine they're going to expand hours too much until they've got a regular following keeping 'em afloat for the hours they've got...

Also just tried Calori (or is it "Colori"?) 8th at Olive today. Also not bad, although they seemed to use something disturbingly teriyaki-sauce-like on their chicken kebab. THEIR menu seems overly eclectic; in addition to the Grrek stuff, they've got Italian stuff, plus a quesadilla and a tortilla soup...but a BUNCH of food; kebab came with veg., with rice, and roast potatoes, AND bread, and salad...

              1. re: silverlakebodhisattva

Love Colori, grilled chicken and the burger is good too, they're open for dinnner Friday and Saturday now too.
Thanks weebie been DT for over 3 years now but 9&B seems far food wise from the 2nd and main area. Gotta try the Persian place and did you say New Moon is open later and on weekends?
It'll be fun to see what fills the retail space in the Eastern.

            2. Open for dinner now during the week.
              TILL 9PM!!
