Menlo Park for a Week
Back-a-Yard for excellent jamaican food--This is a small dive in an iffy neighborhood
Kaygetsu--one of the best Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area
La Bodeguita del Medio in Palo Alto for cuban. Fun place to have mojitos
If you're in need of taking business people out to dinner I would suggest Village Pub or the Mountain House in Woodside. It's kind of a hassle to drive to the Mountain House but the ambiance is really great, being in the middle of the woods.
We have enjoyed Cafe Silan there which is Kurdish I believe, small cafe type place. Also, Del Sol has some good Mexican dishes. Warning though that the service is terrible. The food was good enough to keep going back, until a very horrible experience last time. But I have heard it is better during th eweek than the weekend (because hte owner is around). For a splurge there is Marche, a French restaurant.
Check out Iberia on Alma alongside the train station. Spanish fare. Deli open for lunch. Tapas in extensive bar area and full dinner in restaurant at night. Fun place to hang out and graze on tapas after work. Are you dining solo? Will you have a car? There are many options down the road in Palo Alto.
I'm sorry I don't have any restaurant suggestions for you, but I will say that you will be more likely to get good results here if you say more about what type food you are looking for and what price range. Maybe even how far you are willing to go (Palo Alto is just south of Menlo Park and has lots and lots of places worth trying, for example.)
re: Kim Cooper
Yeah,. use the search to find topics on Palo Alto. Lots of reports in the archive.
If you have some free time and are willing to schlep a bit, there are truly great Indian, regional Chinese, and Ethiopian restaurants (plus a few other cuisines I'm forgetting) in the Santa Clara - San Jose - Mountain View area.
