Good south shore meat store/supermkt?

I just found that Hilltop Butcher shop in Braintree has closed. I used to go there occasionally for some things--meat, olives, pickles, etc.

What recommendations do folks here have for a replacement to Hilltop?, in terms of variety and price?

Hannaford's bought out the Victory chain at the North Quincy location about a year or so ago. The quality is good, but on Sunday mornings they are often low on stock. The last few weeks I've been unable to get tenderloin steaks and their name brand products throughout the store have taken over other brands.

We just discovered Hannaford's in North Quincy (not sure how long it's been open, but I think it's newish) and it's become our new mainstay grocery store. The meat seems to be pretty high quality, and the prices are comparable to Hilltop (we used to stock up there too). Their produce is quite good, and they carry a lot of organic items. Overall the store doesn't have quite as many products as, say, a Super Stop & Shop, but they have all the basics, excellent prices on their house brand, and comparable prices on everything else.

My favorite butcher in Quincy is Roxie's, on Rte 3A near the Center. It's not a high-end place like Whole Foods or Previte's, but they have a wide variety of meats and an extensive deli department. The quality of the meats and deli is excellent. If they don't carry something, they can order it for you. I've had them special order things for me in the past with no trouble.

The big draw is prices. They have the best prices by far of any place I've ever shopped in locally.

Prevites in Quincy is very good for meat, they are cash only. I agree about the Whole Foods in Hingham, very good and very pricey. BJ's in Weymouth has an extensive meat selection both cut and uncut, I've always been happy with anything I bought there.

IMO Whole Foods in Hingham has a wonderful selection of meats, cheeses, etc. It's a little pricey but worth it!
