    1. The Miami Beach Cake was a Pillsbury Bake-Off winner from the 60's and you're in luck because it became the standard B-day cake in our house, and I do happen to have the recipe :-)

      MIAMI BEACH CAKE
1/2 Cup Butter (use real butter)
      1 1/2 Cup Sugar, granulated
      2 Eggs
      2 Cups Flour, all-purpose, sifted
      1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
      1 Teaspoon Salt
      1 1/4 Cups Buttermilk
1/3 Cup Chocolate chips, semi-sweet, melted
      1 Teaspoon Vanilla
      1/2 Cup Graham cracker crumbs
      2/3 Cup Chocolate chips
1/3 Cup Butter (don't use margarine)
      1/2 Cup Nuts, chopped

      1. Preheat oven to 375*
      2. Combine the graham cracker crumbs, 2/3 cup chocolate chips, 1/3 cup butter and chopped nuts of your choice in a small bowl and set aside.
      3. Melt the 1/3 cup of chocolate chips with the vanilla and set aside.
      4. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt, set aside
      5. Cream butter and sugar until light
      6. Beat in the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition
      7. Alternately add the flour and buttermilk to the creamed mixture beginning and ending with the flour
      8. Blend in the melted chocolate chip/vanilla mixture only until chocolate has been evenly distributed.
      9. Divide batter between 2 9" cake pans that have been sprayed with pan release (or buttered and floured, whichever you prefer)
      10. Evenly sprinkle the reserved graham cracker crumb mixture over the top of the batter
      11. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted.
      12. Allow cakes to cool completely before removing from the pan. (I've found that this step is important. Because of the weight of the topping, it sinks when baking and if the cake isn't cool, sometimes the layers will break if they are still too warm when they are removed from the pan.)

      MIAMI BEACH CAKE FROSTING
      1 Cup Milk
      3 Tablespoons Butter
      1 Cup Sugar, granulated
      1/2 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Margarine (or as my mother's recipe calls it "oleo")
      1 Teaspoon Vanilla

      1. Cook the milk and flour until thick (and it will get VERY thick). Cool completely. I usually do this step while the cake is in the oven
      2. Cream the remaining ingredients until very light and very fluffy.
      3. Add the cooled milk/flour combination and whip until the mixture resembles whipped cream.
      4. Place 1 layer on a cake stand or plate and spread some of the frosting over it.
      5. Place 2nd layer on top of the first and finish frosting the cake.

It is important to use butter where called for in the recipe, other than that this is a really easy cake to make and the end results really delicious. Every once in a while I go through a Maimi Beach Cake phase where I make it a lot. I've yet to find someone who doesn't like this cake.

This is an awesome cake! I have been making this very recipe for many years. Please note that in the frosting recipe, it should list 3 Tablespoons of FLOUR not butter!
              Glad you shared.
