Large Group, Decent Budget, Midtown West--Any Ideas?

Dear Hounds--

Where would you take a group of 9-12 with a $700 budget? I'm looking for something within walking distance of Lincoln Center, with the sort of atmosphere where one can indulge in conversation. Any ideas?

Compass, on 70th St., b/t Amsterdam & West End Avs., serves delicious New American cuisine. In addition to the a la carte menu, they offer an excellent value 3-course dinner prix-fixe for $35. Large space with very attractive contemporary decor and a conversation-friendly noise level. They can easily accommodate a group of 9-12; in fact, they have two round tables, at least one of which I think can seat up to 12.
