Out of town hound wants lunch in Greenwich, CT

Looking for seafood for lunch in the Greenwich area. I read the website on Fox Island Seafodd House which sounds compelling.

  1. FISH is ok, a little overpriced in my opinion. They close between 2 and 5 so you have to get there before that. Search for posts about Greenwich Ave. and Purchase St. in Rye. Lots of great lunch spots.

    1. Ocean 211 in stamford is very good. i like grabbing a seat at the bar during lunch and eating oysters. they make a decent martini, too.

      here's a link:

      1. I love the $13 lunch special at Barcelona in Greenwich.

        1. Delamar is always nice because it is on the water in dowtown Greenwhich. Right off I_95

To be fair, yes Delamar is on the water, but it is on an inlet, not the sound. In FFD county resto will state on the water and some believe they will have a wonderful view of Long Island. None do. But Delamar is a very upscale choice.

          2. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but someone on these boards gave the beach house, in old greenwich, good reviews. My understanding was that it was a casual style seafood place - lobster rolls, etc. Sounds like it would be a good lunch spot. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet personally, but it sounds like it is worth checking out.

It's on Sound Beach Avenue in the downtown area of Old Greenwich.

Beach House is ok. But just ok IMO. Run by the same people that run Thataway Cafe in Greenwich I think which is similarly average.

My vote for seafood lunch in Greenwich would be the Elm Street Oyster House...it is generally very good.

ah, yes. Elm Street Oyster house is a better bet, for sure. Had forgotten about that! Good call.

Have you tried the lobster rolls at beach house? I haven't been at all, but that's what someone recommended. Wonder if they are good at all, or if my friends just weren't very discerning. (a distinct possibility).

            2. Elm Street Oyster House is the way to go! Even fun at the bar. Check out the Bruce Museum while in town, great museum.

Adam...no haven't tried the lobster rolls at the beach house...been about 3 times and had grilled chicken sandwich and the burger I think. Both ok but nothing wow, pretty average. Last time I went I had their salad which was quite big and quite good actually. I also like the bar they have...

If I'm in old greenwich and hungry its an option but nothing more than that.

              2. Elm Street Oyster House or Pasta Vera- both in Greenwich.

                1. Try Baang cafe and bar on East Putnam avenue in Riverside. Lunch is served Monday through Friday. Very good asian-fusion food.

                  1. Thanks everyone! We went to the Elm Street Oyster House and it was outstanding. I had oysters on the half, steamed shrimp and the best was the seafood chowder. Others had a red snapper served over great seafood ravioli's and another had a crab gratin - sandwich thing. Thanks again for all the thoughtful advice.

a few folks have gone. One fair review, and one very mediocre one, if I remember correctly. But I think we need more data... if you go, please report back.

                    2. Thanks to all who responded. We went to the Elm Street Oyster House and and it was great!
