Avila's El Ranchito in San Clemente allows dogs on their patio and even has a dog menu! They also have a "Yappy Hour" the third monday of every month for happy hour on their patio with your dog!

There are a number of places.
The Lazy Dog Cafe has locations in Orange, Irvine (Irvine Marketplace, near BJ's) , and Westminster. You can sit on the patio, even have cocktails, and they have (overpriced-but hey, you have the big guy with you) dog treats like chicken breasts and burger patties.
You can sit outside at Break of Dawn and eat really well for breakfast or lunch.
I frequently see people outside at Brussels Bistro with dogs, but they have to be well behaved because the crowd is right there.
I like the Sundried Tomato Cafe (there are others in the chain, but I have only been to Laguna). The have lots of outdoor seating and good food. Cocktails on the patio as well.
Cafe Zoolo gets a lot of dogs.
Fashion Island on the whole is dog friendly, but the restaurants won't let you bring the dogs on the patio. However, I often see tables with the dog next to them just on the other side of the railing. Daily Grill is the place that leaps to mind, but you may be able to do it at other places as well.

Fashion Island will let your dog eat outside. Great Maple will even bring a house-made dog biscuit when they bring humans bread. The mall has an all-over dog friendly policy which means you can walk, shop and eat.

Fashion Island is dog friendly as a mall, but most places I know with a secured patio (fenced, planters, etc, will only allow the dog on the outside of the fence while you sit on the rail. For a well behaved dog, that is not a problem. Mine will just work his way inside the gate all meal, or whine to get in.

Great thread. We'll be in Laguna Beach, with the "hounds" soon, and it's nice to know we can take them occasionally. We've enjoyed Carmel for that reason (and others) at times.

Main St. in Seal Beach is pretty dog-friendly - you can leave your dog just outside of some of the cafes (several have people seating right at the sidewalk), and some stores have water bowls near the door (bring a water bottle along to fill them). We breakfasted last week at Crema Cafe and several people had small, well-behaved dogs with them in the patio area. Not sure about a big dog or dogs there though - you could call and ask. The "patio" is a narrow access way from Main St. back to set-back stores, so having a large dog sprawled across the walking path might not work with food servers, but perhaps way at the back or very close to the front. For those who don't want the pets or flying fur, there's a small inside cafe area as well.
In Huntington Beach just south of Slater there's a breakfast & lunch place in the park and any size of well-behaved dogs are welcome. Park Bench Cafe.

Folks, please keep this thread on topic and recommend places where good food is served. General discussion about life with our four legged friends is beyond the scope of our mission here which is focused on where to find good food.
Thanks for keeping this focused on good eats, with dogs in tow, in the L.A. region.
