As far as I know, there's not a Persian restaurant near Jackson Heights, unless you want to drive to eastern Queens. You can see if some of the Afghan restaurants have Persian items, but that's probably the best you can do in the area. The best Persian place I found in NYC is Pars in Chelsea, but I haven't heard much about it recently.

Here's a relatively recent thread that may provide some guidance: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/354025 I haven't heard great things about either Colbeh or Patoug, but have heard good things about Persian Tea Room. I haven't been to any of 'em.

Pars has fantastic fluffy rice and great appetizers, but otherwise the food is better at Persepolis in the UES (and the service, though stiff, is far better than the awful service at Pars). I don't want to take this thread too far astray, though, and would be happy to talk more about Manhattan options on that board.

We love the Persian Tea Room in Little Neck. In fact, we are having our wedding party there!!

As a connoisseur of Persian food who lives in Jackson Heights, I can say there is nothing, other than the Manhattan places listed above and Little Neck, which would be the closest, and probably only Queens location. I've had some fairly similar khoreshes and kebabs at the Afghan place on the service road along the LIE in Flushing (south side, past Kissena). Sorry I can't remember the name, and they weren't really Persian, just close.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Ali Baba, which, by the way, recently changed ownership. Haven't been there recently, but it's one of my favorite Queens eateries. I am partial to the khoreshes, as well as their Michigan Whitefish with green rice.

I work right around the corner from Patoug, but have yet to try it, due mostly to its' high prices. I'll get around to it eventually, but more often than not, I've opted for Ali Baba.

I remember years ago there was a Persian place on Main St. in Flushing. Does anyone remember it? I don't imagine it's still there. I have to confess I haven't even driven past that section of Main St. in a long time - in my memory it was on that stretch where the S. Asian markets are. How's that? Vague enough for everyone?

Maybe you're thinking of the Afghan markets at the far end of Main Street? There's a butcher and a dry goods shop and a couple of kebab places.

(Sorry to be topping an old thread, but wanted to clarify, plus see if maybe someone else would remember this place.)

That's the end of Main St. I was talking about. There was absolutely a Persian restaurant there, well-reviewed in Newsday IIRC. I think I ate there in the early-to-mid 90's. It was the first time I'd tried that cuisine. (Does that jog anyone's memory?)
