Thai Basil? - Plainsboro, NJ/Edison, NJ

Does anyone know where I can get Thai basil? I live in Plainsboro and went to the big Asian Food Market over there and they only had a package marked "basil". I am just starting with my Thai cooking, but I'm pretty sure that it's regular basil. I work in Edison, so if it takes going somewhere on my lunch break to get it, I'll do that. But I want to be absolutely sure the place has it before going. I get lost in those places.

  1. if its in a chinese supermarket, its probably an oriental basil. There are several varieties used in vietnam, thailand etc. the most common one you will see here has purplish stems . but the bottom line is that any basil will probably serve in your dish.

    1. There is a Thai Restaurant AND grocery store on Stelton Road, past the mall in Piscataway. I think the name is Four Seasons (same owners as sawadee in metuchen).

      1. Have you tried Kam Man Foods, the big Asian market on Route 1 south and Old Post Road in Edison?

No, I don't want to go out of my way to go somewhere that I don't know for certain it's at. But thanks!

        2. Can't say I've ever noticed it in a store. I usually gorw it in a pot in the summer. Fresh is best but I freeze it for times like now when fresh isn't an option. I find it all over by me in Old Bridge at the nurseries when planting season arrives.

          1. I go to the Asian Food Center all the time, right there on Plainsboro Rd & Center Dr. I pick up Thai Basil almost every time I go. I will look next time, but I believe it's even labeled as Thai Basil, in the produce section.

I looked all over in the produce section and couldn't find it. If you could tell me EXACTLY where it is located, that would be great. I get overwhelmed there. I'm just going to use the regular basil this time around since i bought it.
