Does anyone have any suggestions on a restaurant or function room to have an after christening luncheon?

I haven't been to the function room at Spinelli's on Route 1 but I have had their baked ziti and Caesar Salad and both were pretty good. My friend swears by them for catering for her events such as chrisenings and family parties. http://www.spinellisfunction.com/

You didn't say how far into the North Shore you want to go - but Donatello's Restaurant in Saugus, Rte. One North is a fine restaurant and is available for private parties. We have had excellent luncheons and dinners there for years. Here's the link:

The Lyceum Bar and Grill in Salem has a nice function room upstairs.

I can definitely second the Lyceum.

Stripers Grille in Salisbury MA has the best view of Newburyport Harbor and plenty of room to enjoy it from. The food is basic yankee fare and they do a good job with the food and the service. They have a website.

Calitri's, family owned and operated for 20 plus years, has options of two function rooms to accomodate particular size. Meals range from pizza to parmigans, great service too! 978 777-1266

There is a new place called Maddy's which is owned by Kowlooon's. It is at the junction of Route 1 S and Route 99 in Saugus. Don't know if they have a room but it is something different to try. Also, I did an affair a few Mays ago at the Ballard in Saugus. It was quite nice overlooking the river.

I would not reccommend Calitri's unless you like olive gardenesque "Italian" fair, although to be fair I thinks it has been 10 years since I have eaten there...we have held a private party at Donatello's & the food & service was wonderful. I have also eaten there many times & never been disappointed.

I have been loving Calitris for a couple of years, although i have to say that they have been changing the menu around and the last couple times we were disappointed but hoping its just a temporary fluke. They do have a nice function room, have never had a waitress there that wasnt excellent, and have always loved the fresh homemade pasta dishes, and the crispy but melt in your mouth pizza. Like I said, it was hard the last 2 times, but usually great. Toscana is also Italian and they have a nice back room too. Also good food and pizza and great staff.

Montvale Plaza in Stoneham right off 93 @ the Montvale exit has a great menu and multiple rooms/sizes to pick from. I have had many functions there and have never been disappointed... I think they are even better than Spinellis'

The Hardcover on Rt. 1 has function rooms, you can get full sit-down meals or just appetizers, drinks, etc.

Unless, things have changed in the past few years, the Hardcover did not have a function room per se. They would try to put a large party in a more secluded area. I know Beverly Depot has two rooms downstairs in their restaurant you can use for functions. I had my husband's 50th birthday party at BD and it was very nice and they were quite accomodating.
