Buy a Bunn and a Swiss Gold screen filter for it. It's a great combination. I know it doesn't have a timer, but it's a fairly fast brewer.

The alternatives with the timers aren't so great. Cuisinart makes a decent pot, but the filter isn't actually big enough to make coffee correctly. Kitchen Aid might be promising and we won't even talk about Krups. Some people like the Capresso machines, but in my experience, they don't last long.

If you think you can live without the timer and are willing to spend $200 you can own the best there is; the Technivorm! No drip coffee maker made can compare to it.

Good luck!

I haven't been happy with our $100 Cuisinart -- the water isn't heated to the proper temperature, so you don't extract the full flavor from the beans (not to mention the coffee isn't piping hot - the way I enjoy it). I also found the filter to be too small.

Is the Technivorm easy to use? While $200 is expensive I am trying to break my Peet's $3 a day habit so I should be able to pay for it in a couple of months. Where is this brand best purchased?

It's pretty much as easy to use anything else out there. Sweet Maria's has a nice picture page as well as a breakdown of the unit itself. If you do end up buying one, please try to buy it from Sweet Maria's. I assure you they will take good care of you.
