Can anyone recommend a great Mexican restaurant in the Walnut Creek area?

  1. The Cantina in Walnut Creek is pretty good.

I love mexican food, and The Cantina is the worst mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. Do not go there. You will be horribly disappointed. A good rule of thumb with mexican is if the owners are not mexican, and you see no mexicans working in the kitchen, then it probably will not be good as is the case with the cantina in WC.

yes, totally agree on this. It's awful. And I believe The Cantina recently got bought out by Carlos Santana and co, so the restaurant will be completely redone in the near future.

Las Montanas on Willow Pass (in the Park in Shop Center) is pretty decent.

    2. I've never been there, but folks on this board seem to speak positively of El Jarro in Lafayette:

      1. While not exactly Walnut Creek and with the caveat that I haven't been there in several months, IMO the best Mexican food in the area is La Tapatia in Concord. I base that on several dozen meals over the past few years.

        1. La Fogata off of Olympic is fantastic. I adore their Chicken Tostadas, fresh, tender shredded chicken, lots of fresh ingredients, and a very generous size. They have a Margarita Bar.

          1. We really enjoy Taqueria Los Gallos located on Todo de Santos Plaza in Concord. Everything we've tried has been great, good salsa bar, and it is usually quite busy.
