Ku in Greenwich?

  • 7

Ate here last night and although the staff was lovely and very friendly, our food was less than stellar. Our apps were overly salty (shumai and negimaki) and the sushi was blah. Not bad, but not great. Not fresh. Very stringy and chewy.

Was this an off night for them or is it like this often there?

Also is Toku Shin always closed on Mondays? How is this place doing? Is it busy? I have yet to try it but it's on my to-do list. I'm just hoping it stays busy and doesn't close.

thanks!

  1. Haven't been to KU in forever. Where is Toku Shin? DO they do take out? We usually get stuff from Kira or Asiana.....

    1. thanks for the recent report. It's been at least 2 years since I'd been. I had a very good experience there with the food (can't remember the service at all). But sounds like maybe things have changed? Would be interesting to hear another recent report to see if it was, indeed, an off night or just whether it's truly gone downhill. That will be too bad if so.

I'm in the same boat as you regarding Toku Shin... it's still number one on my list to try... just haven't gotten around to try it. Recent report was that there weren't many people there at all. I too hope it stays around!

I concur on Ku...sucked big time last time I ate there (Dec. last year). Sushi was awful...rolls dreadful. Ambience zero.

Toku Shin is excellent. As is Kira (usually although sometimes service is spotty).

Thanks for the recent report. Consensus is in... KU is definitely downhill. Too bad... I only went there twice, both not long after it opened. But it was quite good. Very hopeful. Oh well, at least we have nearby options that are even better!

Speaking of which... does anyone know whether there are any places around here that have homestyle japanese food? not sushi, but japanese curries, and the like? I haven't encountered anything like that in FF county... but I'm not really on top of the japanese food circuit either.

OrganicLife, your description is exactly how I would describe my two visits to Ku- one about two weeks ago and the other about a year ago. Attentive, friendly service, less-than-stellar food.

I finally tried Toku Shin and it was divine! I once again remember what sushi is supposed to taste like. My husband, who is not all that brave with the sushi selections, even tried new things and loved every bite. It was just like strolling into Tomoe when Tomoe was great. The portions, the temperature, the freshness, the buttery texture, and even the way they don't care too much what the sushi looks like( ha ha)...all was so authentic I felt like I was living back on Thompson St. A must go! Cmon folks!!! Keep this place in business!

Kira (both locations) is also very good. Greenwich is a bit fancier than Armonk (naturally) but the food is the same.

I agree with you on that...eating there reminds me of Tomoe in its prime. I like Kira a lot too...their rolls are great.
