Vegas, 2 Guys and Steak

Will be in Vegas this week for March Madness and want to go out one of the nites for a late dinner, probably about 10 pm or so. Staying at Bellagio and would like to try Prime. Would be interested in hearing from folks who have eaten there, and particularly whether any other nearby steakhouses are better/worse, etc.

The best thing on Craftsteak's menu is not even cooked. Their Kobe steak tartare is the best in town, totally about the beef, nothing to hide that amazing product but a little egg yolk!

I'm a simple man who lives by simple means.

I usually just head to the Palm in Caesar's Palace for their "Business Lunch" special. The steak and potatoes are excellent for the price IMO

I'd go to Prime, the steak is incredible, views can't be beat, and you'll already be at the Bellagio

Im not much on steak but my son loves to spoil his Mom and takes me often to his favorite haunt which is called Captiol Grille above the Fashion Show Mall on the strip- very upscale and the best steak I have had in quite a while.

I've only been to Delmonico but I've been there three times and every time I'm impressed.

Not sure why it'd be gay to ask your age?????????

Delmonico in the Venetian if amazing. I live in NY and frequent the top places here and Delmonico is every bit as good. I would normally be sceptical of a celeb chef steakhouse, but all the food is just amazing. Caesar salad, rib eye, and great sides.

Actually, the best steakhouses in the city, IMO, are all "celeb chef".

                Craftsteak - Tom Colicchio
                Stripsteak - Michael Mina
                Prime - Jean-George
Cut ( opening at the Venetian ) - Wolfgang Puck

All depends on how famous you have to be to be considered "celeb chef" but those are some pretty powerful names ...

What did you have at Stripsteak? I've been wanting to try that since they opened. When does "Cut" open?

I would not put craftsteak on any best lists. When I was (granted it was probably 2 years ago) there I was thoroughly disappointed by the lack of char on the steak. The meat tasted fine - certainly nothing special and definitely not worth the markup. They need to learn to use some heat. As I recall, the sides were really nothing special either. Just a very expensive and bland meal. The craftsteak in NY has gotten slammed by the food press for this exact reason and I have read they are tinkering with their technique.

Wow. I couldn't disagree more. The steaks that I've had there have always been fabulous - I don't really like a lot of char on my steaks so that's just fine by me. Their apps and sides really are a notch above most classic steakhouses, IMO.

had a great steak there about 18 months ago...and until kjs mentioned it, he is right, it didn't feel like a steak house. More like a great steak in a fine dining atmosphere.

this may sound strange...maybe even gay, coming from a guy..but how old are you guys ? i do vegas every year with a group of sports fanatics - golfing, basketball drinking food and babes....we tend to split up for dinner - some of us will go to n9ne not only for great food but the scene is very impressive especially now that the playboy club is open. some of the old school guys go to the golden corral...i think that's the name...i believe it's on sahara just off the strip ( between the strip and crazy horse 2 ) they tell me it's great, but a little run down, but they say it's damn good food ! others are going to stripsteak ( i've been there a few time and have written reviews...again good food, kinda hip place ) I've been to prime...it's damn good...but for me...i felt like i was at a high end restaurant and not a steak house...a little too refined for me...low key, quiet...so if you are looking to relax and get away from the hustle...this is a good choice....many have raved about craftsteak...i give it above average marks...but i have not been in a year or so...it deserves commentary from others on the board that frequent the place more and definitely from someone who's been there in the last 3-6 months !

MArch MAdness...the greatest sporting event in the world !!!

While I agree with your recommendations, I believe that the name of the restaurant is the GOLDEN STEER Restaurant.
