Ideas for great, fun, cheap places to eat in Lyon?

Planning a trip to Europe in April, does anyone have any suggestions for food markets, restaurants, wine and chocolate shops etc that are great but will not break the bank? Staying in Lyon, planning to check out Prague and maybe Amsterdam. Also, would like vegetarian options, if there are any.

  1. I always stay in the Centre Ville, and I've found a large number of traditional bistros in that area at very reasonable prices. The rue Mercier may look touristy, but there's some very good food at several of the places I've been.. Bistro du Vin, Bistro de Lyon, exp.

I also love Chez Lea (La Voute). Can't remember the address, but I'll look it up and post it. and Comptoir du Boeuf, the bistro owned by Philippe Chavin, the owner of La Tour Rose. Georges Blanc also has a tasty bistro in the 6th, I believe, called Le Splendid.

ChefJune Thanks for the tips :) Will check everything out!

    2. Paul Bocuse has a series of bistro each featuring a different style of food. Four are called Bistro du Nord, Sud , l’Est, and Ouest, There’s a fifth but I forget the name. They’re are very good an reasonably priced and the food is good.

Le Splendid is also good. It’s right across the street from one of Bocuse’s places. Some of the food is the same as you’d get in his three star place. When I was there ‘Georges’ himself was there for lunch.
