Red Fin Restaurant in Stratford CT
Dined at the new Red Fin Restaurant last night with four others. Three diners ordered the Kobe Burger. Very overcooked and dry--burned actually. I ordered the seafood risotto which was very good. Another diner ordered the Pork Chops--also very good. So I guess the motto here is not to order anything too simple. The wait staff was pleasant but had to be asked to bring things that should have been on the table for the meal. No one in our group wants to go back because three diners were very unhappy with their meals.
I talked to another couple that went there and they thoroughly enjoyed it so maybe the place is still working out some kinks seeing that it's fairly new. It would be nice if it worked out there because it's a good location.
Also, how are the prices?
I went there tonight (Tuesday) It was supposed to be open according to the hours posted on their website but when I got there it was closed and dark. Looks out of business to me. Another fine stupid Stratford thing open a new restaurant then begin major construction right next door for months!
re: local guy
There's a sign in the window saying they're closed for the duration of the construction (they're in the shadow of a new BJ's store and under a highway bridge that was just undergoing emergency repairs). The sign said the construction took away their parking and, probably more importantly, their power. No timetable for opening, but there's a phone number (which I didn't have a pencil to write down) for updates.
What a mess this place was. Apparently, they are reopening in February or March. They did not shut down because of the construction, they shut down because the owners have no clue how to run a restaurant and pocketing their own money!
Irrational decision making on their part. I've heard they still have not paid their staff, bounced checks every week and have not paid their vendors (you know, the food vendors where they received all their FROZEN food, source: an ex- waitress). I've went 3 times in hoping the impression it left on me the first time I went, would change, and it did not. I like to support new local businesses, this one was already too far into the ground.
Supposedly it will be the same owners, I think they should probably bury the hatchett on the restaurant business and get out before they are bankrupt.
I did not ever dine there (which, from all accounts, was probably a good thing!), but the buzz was decidedly negative. It is all a shame,as the location could not have been more attractive - right on the river!
I am not surprised to hear what browneyedmom wrote. The fact is that location and "newness" will only go so far - the litmus test still has to be the ability to provide good food. From what I understand, the prices were not decidedly different from a number of the upscale places in and around Milford, and if you are going to ask $25 or so for entrees, they better be good - mediocre just doesn't cut it!
I agree - the place has a very negative reputation and I really don't see how the same management will change things simply be reappearing.
