Just tried The Cheesecake Cafe in Rosemead upon a friend's recommendation and we liked it. It's a very casual small place with down-home cooking of soul food and a bunch of different cheesecakes. There are only 2-3 entrees per night because the owner is the cook, baker, waitress, busboy and dishwasher. I had smothered pork chops which were yummy and my husband had garlic chicken which was very tasty. Then we had slices of the chocolate cheesecake and a pumpkin cheesecake -- we liked the creaminess; we don't like super dense cheesecakes. Everything we had tasted very homemade. Cornbread is served with every meal, which she makes herself of course. Loved her mac n'cheese -- a bit more sophisticated than what kids normally get. On Saturday nights she offers a free live jazz band if you book a party of eight in advance. It's byob and no corkage fee.
It's neat to see someone cooking and baking their heart out and running their own little cafe with such passion.
