Calypso Cafe - MSP

We tried to go to the Craftsman on Lake St. last night, but were told that there was a 45 minute wait (when a host finally surfaced). So, we drove on back west on Lake St. and spontaneously went to the Calypso Cafe instead. It is right next to Midori's. They say they serve Greek Fusion food. I have no idea what that means, but, I have to say, I thought the food was pretty good. This is not a fancy-pants place. It is not Christo's either. It is a decent, family restaurant in my neighborhood featuring fresh ingredients, reasonable prices, and homestyle cooking. Judged on that basis, I think it is quite good. I had some very tasty tillapia with a lemon-wine sauce and littlefoodie had the shrimp, which she liked. We both liked the delicious artichokes as a side dish. The service, if unpolished, was friendly, attentive and prompt. In summary, I am very glad to have found Calypso. I foresee that we will return on those nights when we are wrung out and need a quick, wholesome bite to eat.

Here is a link to a site which gives the address etc.
Looks like Calypso also has their own Web site, but it doesn't seem to be working right now:

  1. Thanks for sharing about Calypso - my friend and I have been thinking about going and am not sure what we have been waiting for - guess, we'll just have to check it out now!

I had been wanting to try Calypso Cafe for some time now, and I decided to go Saturday night. I arrived only to find that it has closed. There is a sign in the window that says "Reopening soon under new management" - We shall see.

They should be re-opening soon. There was an add that had the "mention this add and get a free flaming cheese" in the City Pages last week.

They've been closed since June 24th unfortunately, and as a regular from the neighbourhood I'm not surprised because they had revamped the menu and it seemed that they mostly did that to jack prices up to Town Talk insanity.

Ah, bummer. Well, I guess all good things much eventually come to an end, including bargain prices on great sandwiches. Thank you for the update.

So unfortunately Calypso is no more. The sign came down Friday evening. It now has a new sign up as Green Olive and has had some activity in the past few days even though they are closed, so I'm guessing new employees are testing the menu etc.
