Magnolia

Okay, well I know how most people feel about the cupcakes at Magnolia, and I had never tried them in all of my visits to New York, until this week...Gotta say, I not only went once, but TWICE! Thought the vanilla frosting on the chocolate cupcake was absolutely delicious! Did not think that the chocolate frosting was that great, but the vanilla ROCKED!!!..

Another good place is Billy Bakery on 9th ave in Chelsea- very similar but without the insane line. Another place is Cupcake Cafe, which has the most beautiful buttercream floral creations ever- just amazing. The cake itself is very dense, sometimes almost dry, BUT the store has two locations, and it is best to go to the one where the baking is done, which is at 18 West 18th between 5th and 6th avenues- the cupcakes are much fresher.

I think Magnolia is a hyped place, not worth waiting on line. The cupcakes taste like a kid's birthday cake to me - and not a great one.

Magnolia is just okay, imo. Next time, you should try Sugar Sweet Sunshine on 126 Rivington. Their cupcakes are much fresher and delicious!
