Now that summer has really hit it's stride, I'm scratchin' my head about where all the chiles are hiding. Anyone got a line on poblanos at a farmers market on the peninsula? Saturday in San Mateo is my usual haunt, but I've also checked Sunday in Mtn. View and come up empty handed. One of the really stellar tomato/cucumber/chile folks who was with us last year in San Mateo is MIA so far this season.

Any help appreciated. Even the ones at Whole Foods look like they've been around the block a couple of times.

Thanks!

Because of all the early rain, crops went in later, this means a later crop of peppers. They really don't get started until august, especially the big ones like poblanos. You can find greenhouse peppers at Ferry Plaza. If you are talking about stores, Monterey Market and Berkeley Bowl have fresh peppers.

They're there... I went to both Mountain View's and Vallco's FMs this last week and saw them at several vendors' booths. Prices are similar to Whole Paycheck or Andronico's, though, but the quality was better (as you expect.) I didn't catch any of the particular names above/behind the booths, though. One farm had jalapenos, poblanos, seranos, and yellow wax in abundance.

I saw a some at San Carlos FM on Thursday night (4-8) although there were just a few.

Also, the best tomatoes are now in - I buy them from one of the small farmers whose stand is at the end of the first block (just across from the park).
