Fish sauce: two questions.
I love my bottle of Golden Boy fish sauce -- sprinkle it on just about everything -- but only just discovered that there's a small glassy, jingly thing at the bottom, about 1/4-inch in diameter (it's but of irregular shape but kinda round-ish). Is this a solid preservative, or a manufacturer's mishap?
Also: half out of scientific curiosity, and half wishful thinking: does fish sauce retain any omega-3s from the anchovies?
You're fish sauce just crystallized, It happens sometimes to mine.It is still fine to use. I don't know about Omega 3s.....
Yeah, it's just the salt coming out of solution. Remember growing crystals in science class? I think it's pretty much like that. And I doubt that omega-3 fatty acids are in anything that doesn't have fat in it. Wouldn't that be great though... :-)
