Does anyone have a recipe for a poppy seed cake (not lemon)? My grandma, who was german, used to make an icebox poppyseed cake that was delicious. I can't remember if it was cream cheese based, but the frosting was white/vanilla, as was the cake. I remember the cake being so cool, light and delicious. Any ideas?

Baking with Julia has a great poppy seed cake recipe in it. You use leftover cake crumbs and grind the poppyseeds in a coffee grinder.
You can use any kind of crumbs, white or chocolate, but a buttery almond cake ground up and used is really good.
You don't have to frost it, but it would lend itself nicely.

check out the label of the Solo Poppyseed Filling can for the recipe that my German Grandmother made

Agreed. The recipie on the can of Solo filling is just like the many poppyseed cakes my husband remembers from growing up in Poland. I fact we made 6 of them for our wedding. Just follow thw directions and dust with a little powdered suger. We added edible flowers on top.
