TL Taylor Sultan's new location
hey, i was at naan n curry across from 333 o'farrell (sf hilton) last night and i saw a sign next to naan n curry that said sultan (currently on taylor bet o'farrell and ellis) is moving to the vacant spot next to this naan n curry branch. since i have not seen any mention on this move, i thought i would throw it out on this board and let all the sultan lovers know about this tidbit.

Anybody try Sultan for dinner yet? I loved this place in it's old location, one of my go-to Indian places in the city. Was walking by the new location last night, was surprised to see that the prices have increased significantly (or am I mistaken?)!

I saw Tandoori Quail on the dinner menu for $20 or so. And the owner refused to even entertain the possibility of 'Gujarati' style food. In fact, he told me that just because one of his cooks was Gujarati, people had the wrong impression that Sultan was a place that specialized in Gujarati cuisine.
I think they are trying to target a different price level, and do not want to be known as a 'thali' destination. One of my Indian friends, originally from Bombay - was raving about the food, though.

Does anyone know if Sultan open yet? I went last night (Sat) and it was closed when we got there at 8pm. We went next door to Naan n Curry, which disappointed, and I asked one of the guys working there about Sultan. He said that he couldn't say anything and that I should ask the owner of Naan n Curry, but I didn't want to ask given that Sultan is probably the new competitor.

Indeed, thanks for the notice, Sultan is one of my favorite spots as well. In a way, it's sort of exciting that Naan 'n Curry and Sultan will be right next door to each other. Maybe once that happens, more people will begin to realize that Naan 'n Curry is often not all it's cracked up to be. <grins>

re: osho
I walked by their new location yesterday at 340 O'Farrell and it is not open yet. They were working on the paint and tile and there was furniture set up. I talked to a young man in front who said that it would open in about a week. The windows are still papered up and interestingly it is right next door, on the west side, of Naan 'n Curry.
