I tried that Coco Thai place and it was awful. Almost like Chinese people pretending to cook Thai. If you want real Thai, go to Thai Bistro on Yonge.
Ferrovia was ok italian, but nothing stellar.
There's a new Congee Queen that just opened up not too long ago if you venture down to Steeles & Don Mills (shops on 404 complex). Haven't tried that one yet though.
Jerusalem on Leslie just north of Finch has a pretty good dinner buffet.
On Yonge & Steeles is Han IL Kwan, a pretty good Korean place. Some of the best and freshest Kim chi dishes we've had.
Shanghai Xue Yuan (5 Glen Cameron rd) - near Yonge/Steeles has really good chinese (Shanghainese) food.

If you're going as far as Yonge & Steeles, then I like the Schnitzel House for Hungarian food (avoid the steamed veggies at all costs!)
South on Yonge between Steeles and Finch are a number of quite chowish middle eastern places and Korean places, though more in the takeout/bakery vein than the sit down restaurant vein, as well as a Korean Bakery that's truly amazing and definitely a must try (I have no idea what the name is, it's got an orange sign and it's on the west side of Yonge in one of those little buildings with like three shops in them.)

I guess no else is actually going to answer your question, so I will. There are no "must try" places around there. There are some OK places like. Ferrovia and Sababa come to mind. You could go up to Restoran Maylasia. But all in all, it's pretty poor eating around there.

re: wordsworth
come on... poor eating, maybe not your style, but that does not mean it is not good. THAT IS A BIG DIFFERENCE
Kanzo (sp) for ramin
across from the mazda, the Korean dumpling
Owl for pork bone soup
sushi on spring garden
on willowdale italian (not my choice but good itailian)to name but a few

re: wordsworth
Yeah, I'll ditto that. AT Bayview and Steeles there is virtually nothing except for Ferrovia and Coco Thai (same plaza, both worth trying).
If you venture east to Leslie there's still about nothing (except for Pickle Barrel).
If you go to Yonge/Steeles there are some decent little places, such as the Korean Galleria mentioned elsehwere, Ginza sushi (solid and cheap if not GREAT) and Indian Kitchen (ditto).
Restoran Malaysia is up at Major Mac so including it is a bit like including places at Yonge/Eglinton but it is very good.
There are a few places at Bathurst/Steeles too but, in short, NOTHING right at Bayview/Steeles.
Oh, and I'll toss in support for the very good What a Bagel falafel.-
re: fleisch
I disagree that going up to Restoran Maylasia is like going to Yonge/Eg. What really matters is time and troublr, not distance. You can drive up Bayview to Major Mac in no time. Going to Y & E would take 3-4 times as long. That's why I'd consider Restoran Maylasia to be Bayview & Steeles.

Check out this thread:

I used to work at Morrow Park and it required considerable driving to hunt for good chow. My faves were What-a-Bagel for falafel (less than $3 for a satisfying half-sandwich) and large bourekas (also very cheap, in the kept-warm area), Me Va Me (not Express) for Jerusalem mix (chicken, hearts, livers), Sababa for falafel (but they have gone downhill a little), and the Galleria Korean shopping centre for impressive street food (pancakes stuffed with cinnamon-sugar, and bungeoppang -- fish-shaped waffles stuffed with red beans). If you head over to Yonge, there are tons of options such as Cuisine of India. You could also head east on Steeles to J-Town. -

For a casual falafel, go to Sababa West of Yonge on the North side (you're better off driving a bit further to get your falafel at Sababa then to get it at What-A-Bagel, IMHO). Take out food from Me-vah-Me in ToysRUs plaza a bit West of there. For decent pan asian food, go to Sweet Basil at Major Mac and Bayview. If you go there, however, order something to start as soon as you sit down because they are VERY slow with service when they are busy.
Can't think of anything in the immediate vicinty of Bayview and Steeles. The Thai place at Laureleaf and Bayview is OK, nothing special.
There are some good recs on this board for other asian restaurants on Hwy 7, but I haven't been, so I can't recommend any.
Go to Yonge and Centre for Indian Kitchen and Sariwon.›5 Replies-
re: pescatarian
There are now a couple of good restaurants in the mall at Steeles and Leslie... a Chinese place, and a Japanese place (ran by Koreans) that is not too bad, quiet place.
If you head west to Yonge, going up to John street is not too far away. You have Licks (think this is one of the better Licks), Eddie's steak house, and Terra within 50 feet of each other. from $5 to $50.
yea, we dont stop at Bayview either.

re: wordsworth
TOTALLY dis-agree
first time i went in, both of us order their nature burger (veg). My wife actually went back and complained that she got a hamburger. Well it was a nature burger that tasted exactly like the real thing. And a good one at that.
i guess it depends on which licks you go to, but the one near yonge and cummer never has an issue

You'll find Chinese places to the north and east and Korean and Persian places along Yonge. Others will need to advise you of which are good. At Steeles and Bayview, you will starve. Well, that's an exaggeration, but there isn't anything noteworthy in the immediate vicinity. (Swiss Chalet at Bayview & Cummer; Montana's at Steeles & 404, etc.)
