I'm looking for YUM sake to take to a dinner party that's serving various Korean delights (bulgogi, chapchae, and banchan). My old standby is a bottle of the Otokoyama from Mitsuwa (Centinela) ... any recommendations from the CH crew will be gladly appreciated.

Pdjy:

Are any of your hosts Japanese (or Korean, for that matter), or will Japanese food be served at the dinner party? I think it's important to get past that threshhold question before addressing the question of sake.

Some commonly available sakes which you might keep an eye out for are Gekkeikan Horin daiginjo, Kubota daiginjo and Wakatake Onikoroshi ginjo or daiginjo (of course you will serve these cold!) Or bring a dessert sake for afterwards, like Seiryo Kijoshu or Hanahato Kijoshu

Noice - There will be both, but they're not "advanced" sake drinkers by any means ...

barleywino - Thanks for your suggestions!

CH Admin - I had a feeling this was going to be moved as soon as I clicked "Post New Topic". :)

Pdjy:

I was just making sure the affair was not too formal; despite the physical proximity of the two countries, Japanese and Korean cultures and customs could hardly be more different.

I would second Barleywino's recommendation of Gekkeikan Horin -- I have always enjoyed it. Enjoy the party.
