TGIFriday's Right Portion, Right Price Entrees

I have not been to Friday's in years or really any chain restaurant but due to traveling in uncharted territory, I took took a chance. I picked something from their Right Portion, Right Price Menu. Finally, somebody got it. We don't need an entree big size to feed a family. I had the Asian Glazed Chicken on Field Greens. It was really good and had some heat to it. It was good enough that I might be back for more.

I havent eaten at a Fridays in years. I thought their food was pretty bad and had the McFood feel that you get at lots of chains. So, I have to say, my wife and I ate there recently. Had a chicken strawberry salad that was really good.. Very good in fact. My salmon was pretty good too. Maybe I'll have to give them a chance.

      ate their last weekend.

      got the three for $12.99

      Potato Skins
      Fried Shrimp
      two mini-desserts

I remember the potato skins being really good (10+ years ago). These were bad and I think fried?
      Fried shrimp was okay
I liked the desserts - the two minis - peanut butter cup.

The right size means that they cut the size of the expensive parts and reduced the price a fraction. Then...folks, look at the drink prices. Almost $3 for a coke.
In our part of the world with tax and tip the bill per person is almost the same.
      Just less protein.

Been there for lunch a couple times myself. I can not stay away from the right size Chicken and Fettucini Alfredo. There version is a JD Grilled chicken breast served on a bed of fetuccini with bacon, onions, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. I get it w/o the mushrooms and absolutely love it. I am a big eater and it is a perfect size for lunch as I am trying to cut way back on portion control anyway. Please try and let me know what you think.

I was on vacation this past week and our hotel key card entitled us to 15% off at TGIFriday's so we ate there several times. I had the Asian Salad as well and it was delicious! I had that with soup and was full but not overtly full. I really wanted to try the fried green beans though.

Since the TGIFriday's opened near our apartment, my boyfriend and I frequent there often. He always orders the Jack Daniels double glazed ribs, and was pleased to find a half portion on the Right Portion menu. It is the perfect size, and it is delicious every time.

Haven't tried those, but sweet Jesus, their fried macaroni and cheese is the best around.

The idea is good, but I'm not sure they actually have anything in that category that I can eat since I don't touch seafood... their regular serves are enough for THREE lunches for me, so I could use a little less! I'd probably still be getting a doggybag.

I finally tried the 'right size' menu... it was okay. I still didn't eat it all but there wasn't enough left over to take home. So the serving size was about right... I wouldn't call it particularly 'healthy' or 'well-balanced' though - a plate of pasta with a crumbed chicken patty sitting on top. If they really wanted to make it healthy they'd put a bit of green stuff on the plate too.
We won't be going back though, because we weren't impressed with the food in general. It tasted VERY mass-produced to me. (so in general, it's a great idea and the price is right, but I don't think the quality or choice is good enough to make it worthwhile for us.)

Sunday's News York Times ran an article called "Will Diners Still Swallow This?". It went into detail about the reasons TGI Fridays is taking this chance with their portion sizes and the economics of portion size in general. Pretty interesting reading.

I would go for a smaller portion during lunch with coworkers or during occasions when it is impractical to get a doggie bag. I don't mind oversize portions because I almost always take half my food home as leftovers. The one exception is salads where leftovers are generally unappetizing a day later.

If they price this Right Size, Right Price thing where patrons believe they are getting a good value, it just may work.

I'm working on a post about this myself. It's great to hear the food is actually good too.

What's the Right Portion, Right Price menu? I'm assuming it's smaller portions at a lower price, but is there anything special about it?

The only things I eat at TGIFriday's are the burgers (I like the JD bbq sauce) and stuff off the happy hour menu.

Great to hear! I was there earlier in the week and wished I had gotten one of those rather than the blah soup and salad I had. Oh, I also tried the fried green beans - GHASTLY.
