Central Fish Market

Did Central Fish Market on 39th and 9th close?

Their phone number is disconnected.

Everytime I walk by the gate is down.

Anyone know the status on the store? I passed by yesterday and saw a sign that read "4 soft-shell crabs for $9.99," but the place was closed with gates down and white butcher paper on the windows. Just tried the phone number and found it's still disconnected.

Before I inadvertently start a negative rumor, I just called International (the "Greek place") and they were open, so I guess they changed their hours or were closed for some other reason that day. For a bunch of reasons, I wouldn't have that corner was prime for yet more "luxury condos", but these days you never know so I tend to assume the worst. (sigh)

I hope neither one has closed! 9th Ave in the high 30s/low 40s is truly one of the last hold-outs for fresh food at affordable prices.

I hope that building hasn't been sold or anything... I noticed that the Greek place next door was closed a couple of Sundays ago on my way to Port Authority, which I don't remember them doing, not at noon anyway. Anyone seen them open recently?

Do you prefer Central to Sea Breeze, just down the block?

I hope they didn't.....good place for cheap fish.

I walk my daughter to school past there every day, but this week has been too cold to walk. I think we can walk tomorrow and then I'll check it out.
