pickled green tomato

oohlala Mar 8, 2007 06:12 AM

Went to Kat'z deli for some pastrami and they have these wonderful pickled green tomato. They are regular size tomato, but firm, really cruchy. Anyone knows where I can find them in TO?

Those green tomatoes are my favourite thing at Mel's Montreal Delicatessen 440 Bloor Street West (a block east of Bathurst on the north side)

You'd find them in the refrigerated cases where kosher pickles are found. Made by Strubs, Mrs. Whytes. They're always available in supermarkets and stores along the Bathurst corridor, from St. Clair (Loblaws) up through Thornhill and Richmond Hill. Any Dominion, Loblaws or Sobey's in the area would carry them.

Katz's Deli pickle their own tomatos and you can purchase a jar which come in two sizes directly at the store

Their [sweet] pickled red peppers are excellent, too.

well, i'm back in TO now, hahahahaha, kinda late to purchase them~

we tried Kat'z first thing during the day, so we didn't want to buy anything to go. By the end of the day, we were just too tired to go back to Kat'z, too bad :(

oohlala, I realize now that you were probably referring to Katz's Deli in New York City, but WE'VE been referring to Katz's Deli in Toronto (Dufferin, just south of the 401).

              Give their pickles a try.
