St. Patrick's Day Specials, Events, Etc...

Figured I'd start a thread on happenings in Philly for those who care. I haven't had much time to look into anything but I know the Erin Express runs around this and next weekend. I also know McGillins and both Irish Pubs have a "crawl" going on this Sat. starting at 10am. What other food/alcohol happenings or specials are going on now through next weekend?

  1. Other than Erin Express, I am heading out the AC Beer Fest this weekend. Should be much bigger than the Philly Craft Beerfest last weekend at the Navy Yard. That was pretty fun, although who are they kidding that there would only be 1500 people per session. More like 4,000 people per 4 hour block. It was packed. See you at the Troegs table.

    1. juice - we were there at the beer fest during the afternoon session and there were moments of congestion but we were movin. have you written to the organizers to let them know your frustration with the amount of people? they are planning a beer WEEK next yr and it would be a crying shame if the attendants didn't help them via feedback.

      1. RD, I had a great time and I'm sure the event was a success, but do you honestly think there were only 1500 people there during the afternoon session? I had no problem getting drinks after the first hour, but it felt like you were in McFadden's after a Phillies game. I think it was a great idea, but simple conveniences were ignored. There were no visible signs for the shuttle from the subway at Patterson. Parking inside the base (which isn't monitored or patrolled by the event) all of a sudden cost $10 by some guy collecting in a t-shirt. The bathroom and food lines were a joke. It was impossible to catch a shuttle back (the bus was out front, but the driver told me (and about 10 others) to go fly a kite.) So we had to walk back to the parking lot. There's definately room for improvement. But every brewer that participated at the event was cool and I spoke with some really interesting people who are very passionate about what they do. I'm sure I'll be first in line for next year.
