Recommendations in/near Theater District

What are your favorite spots in or near the Theater district--for either a pre-show or post show dinner ? Also, how much in advance should we make reservations. And, while I'm asking, any suggestions for just an after show drink in the same area?? Thanks for the advice!

Cascina is my new favorite Italian in the area. It's located on 9th Ave between 45 & 46 St.

There are several good ethnic restaurants along 9th Ave.

I'll second Joe Allen.

Vice Versa is one of the best places in an ocean of Theater District mediocrity. Decent wine list also.

What sort of meal are you looking for? Cost range? Atmosphere?

My two favorites in the Theater District:

db Bistro Moderne (44th between 5th and 6th)
Sushi Zen (44th between 6th and 7th)

Reservations at both are a must, but relatively easy to get (particularly at Sushi Zen) if you don't wait til the last minute.
