Any other good ramen in JTown?
Besides Daikokuya, Hanaichimonme, San Sei Tui? There was a post some time ago about a new ramen place on Judge something street, it was on my list, but I haven't tried it as it never seems to be open. I'm pretty sure I tried Mr. Ramen a long time ago, but don't think I cared for it. Thanks!

No one's mentioned the classic wafu chuka paradise and ramen stand-by Kouraku on 2nd street. while it may not be the best in LA, for downtown ramen it's a perennial. Daikokuya is a cool joint too, although pretty much a one trick pony compared to Kouraku's scroll of a menu. Orochon is a good call for the chashu as well, but I'm actually amazed that kouraku has yet to be mentioned on two ramen threads while places like Tokyo cafe and Mr. Ramen are getting mentions. Am I missing a tastebud somewhere? (not that I mean to diss Tokyo Cafe or Mr. Ramen. They both have good points as well...)

re: Fat Billie
Just ate at San Sei Tui (is that the spelling?) last night. It's near the Fugetsudo (confection place) and Anzen Hardware on First Street in Little Tokyo. I had the special ramen with pork belly in sort of a miso soup base. The pork belly was tender and tasty, but a cardiologist's nightmare (lots of fat). My friend got something like a miso ramen. We both liked it, but it was a bit salty (miso induced?) so I was thirsty later. He's been to Japan and said he had ramen from these ramen carts and the soup was not very hot (temperature wise). He thought he'd have liked his soup served hotter and perhaps they were following a Japanese culinary custom. He is more knowledgeable than I in the ways of the Japanese, but my experience is they serve tea and ramen piping hot over here (in general). They weren't very busy and we got a discount from the listed price (we didn't even ask for it, but accepted it gratefully). You might check it out and ask the prices. I thought it was very reasonable with the discounted price.
