Pho in Alhambra

katkoupai Mar 7, 2007 04:38 PM

I had pho today for lunch at Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa, corner of Valley and Marengo, in Alhambra. I had never been there before. It was the only place where I could find parking *and* a quiet place to sit for pho on the stretch of Valley Blvd., between the city of Rosemead and Alhambra, during lunch time. Every other place (and parking lot) was super crowded. I drove by dozens of places. I thought maybe because it was less crowded, it might be bad. The service was fast and friendly. The soup broth was very flavorful. I enjoyed it very much. I had a bowl of the combination pho soup with beef, tendon, fishballs and everything in it, plus a fresh lemonade soda for less than $7. I usually cannot finish a whole bowl of pho, but I nearly finished this one. It was very good. :) I thought it was better than Saigon Flavor, Saigon Noodle and Indochine, all of which I have been to in the last couple of months. I'm sure there are many other great places in the same area.

Cool, thanks for reporting. I pass by that place a lot and was wondering how it is, now I will have to try it soon

I you are craving banh mi in that area, I recommend the bbq beef banh mi at the little Baguette du Jour nearby on Valley Bl just east of Fremont. Nice crunchy baguette, bit of cilantro, daikon, good beef, sauce, etc. for about $2.50

Ernie, this is the second time you've recommended a place to me that I really, really enjoyed. Thanks so much. I paid $6.50 for the following today at Baguette du Jour:

2 delicious and fresh spring rolls-- huge
        1 Thai iced tea
        1 baguette sandwich with beef

It was delicious beyond belief, and I thought the server made a mistake on the price! In Pasadena, I would pay 6.50 for the spring rolls alone.

I'm beginning to really love eating in Alhambra. Thank you so much. I loved it!

I have been meaning to try Lee Kam Kee for a few weeks now. I looked at the sign again today, as I ate my spring rolls. I will definitely check it out soon. Thanks for the rec, mommycat. :)

So happy you enjoyed Baguette du Jour :) Lee Kam Kee is great. I like their thin and flavorful Vietnamese-style pork chops, delicate pho ga (chicken pho soup), and cha gio (imperial rolls). Try their hot fruit tea which makes a nice treat when its cold outside

Check out Pho Pasteur in Rosemead on Valley near a huse lee's. I am not much a fan of pho being viet and all ( i get tired of it...lol). Parking isn't a problem because its in a HUGE plaza so there's plenty of parking. The restuarant does get crowded at times so you might have to wait.
