Dessert Suggestions for Dinner...
I am not a dessert person, so I need some help with an idea for a dessert that I can bring to this dinner. Dinner will be Pan fried chicken with herbs, mashed potatoes and Marsala Mushroom Sauce + veggie. There will be a few kids eating my dessert, so no alcohol should be in it. I should add that the people who will be eating are great cooks with fantastic taste. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!
Here's one I made for a catering gig last year. At Trader Joe's they have cookies called "Joe Joes" or something like that, its their version of an Oreo cookie. Chocolate cookie with chocolate filling. I tossed a bunch of them into a food processor and buzzed them up and used them as a crust in a muffin pan (I actually used a silicone muffin pan which made getting the eventual item out far easier). Then I filled the muffin cups up with hazelnut gelato that I got from a local shop...but any good ice cream or gelato would work and any flavor you like that goes with chocolate would also work. Slap the whole thing into the freezer and let them get solid. The creaminess of the filling in the cookies keeps the crust from setting and becoming solid, so even when the gelato/ice cream is froze, the crust is totally edible. If you want to be fancier, you could make a caramel sauce or a fruit puree or some such thing to add some color to the plate. This is super simple, obviously, but really elegant and tasty and would be a nice finish to the meal you describe (at least in my opinion).
tiramisu always good and not that difficult to make.
Another one is Trifle....chocolate cake layered with pudding custard whipped cream and topped off with crumbled toffee chips. Layer in a glass bowl and garnish the top with toffee chips and maybe a sprig of mint. If you have a glass bowl on a pedastal that makes a great presentation. Everyone loves this!
