BLT Fish: Go Buy Gorton's Instead

I never even heard of BLT until today. I passed it on my west and north and saw fried clams on the menu and figured I'd give it a try. I thought the place was new just from the vibe I was getting. The hostess was nice enough but she sat me down in a corner table where there was a extremely low hanging light with a glass bowl. I hit it once when I was backing into my seat (I didn't see it before hand) and the hostess pretty much said "oops I forgot to warn you.." I bumped into this thing two more times and had to explain to the hostess and maitre d that a low hanging light fixture, one that is lower than the height of a patron's ear is a dangerous thing especially with a glass cover. They reacted like this was a new problem and that they would get on it. Now after doing a search on this board my guess is that it's not new and they really don't care. Se La Vie.

Anyway. I ordered the fried clams and periwinkles (which I didn't know was another name for snails but that's okay I love snails.), the number of clams were six, the menu is upfront about that, the taste is a 2. It's mostly salty cornmeal on some very over washed cherry stones. It's pretty bad when the tartar sauce tastes better then the fish that it's meant to be a condiment to. The snails were very bland. Like they were completely drained of all their flavor in gallons of fresh water. I know snails have a brine to them. G-d knows if you go to any Chinatown in NYC the places that serve snails even without the black bean sauce don't over cook them or leech the flavor out of them and they should taste like a boiled clam. Oh yeah! The coffee is barely microwaved. Tap water is hotter. Another NYC embarrassment.
