Metropolitan Museum of Art

I need a recommendation for Saturday lunch in the Metropolitan Museum of Art vicinity. Casual is best. Willing to try anything. Thanks.

  1. We had an excellent lunch recently right in the museum at the Petrie Court Cafe. Excellent food, very good service, and pleasing ambiance that includes a view of Central Park.

Near the museum, Cafe Boulud is close by, on 76th St., b/t 5th & Madison. This is 4-star chef Daniel Boulud's second-tier restaurant, but the cuisine is anything but second-rate. Superb! Cordial, professional service. Attractive decor. Casual atmospherics.

Cafe Sabarsky is in the Neue Galerie, on the corner of 5th Av. & 86th St. Delicious Austrian cuisine from Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner, who also owns Wallse. Sabarsky's dining room is gorgeous. The only hitch is that they don't take reservations, and there could be a long wait.

    1. I second Cafe Sabarsky. Get there early for lunch--before noon, so that the wait will be short. If you are at the Met, you can get back after lunch with you tag.
