i used to get it in toronto and it would come in a plastic container with a blue lid...not sure about the block form stuff, but maybe that's a good alternative? i'll check chinatown and up on jean talon. thanks for all your help!
If anyone is still interested, I found tamarind paste in many forms today at Hawaï. They have in glass jars and plastic tubs. Anyway, I guess I'd never noticed it before or it's new.
are you looking for the one that's in a block form? because my roommate bought tamarind paste in that form from an asian grocery store in chinatown. Try the one that's on St.Laurent, near the building that burned down. You can also find the tamarind candies in chinatown as well.
I've never seen it in paste form at an East-Asian grocery. I've seen it in compressed dried form, as a concentrated liquid, in fresh form and as frozen pulp, but never as a paste.
