Strip House...good?

My boyfriend and I got totally into wanting to go when we saw a TV show on NYCTV featuring Strip House and mostly their Crisp Goose Fat Potatoes. As far as we are concerned if those are as good as they look we will be there, but otherwise how is the other food and the service?

  1. We didn't love the food, preferring the steaks (and setting) of The Knickerbocker, which is nearby.

    1. I haven't been in about two years, but used to love going there. Very festive and fun locale, nice ambiance. The goose fat potatoes are awesome. Deserts are really good. Food is decadent at times. Knickerbockers is very good food, always fresh menu, active kitchen, but it's a neighborhood joint, pedestrian ambiance inside. If you want a special evening, Strip House is probably a better bet.

Great steaks. I personally think the goose fat potatoes are overrated but love the truffled creamed spinach

      2. The steak is very good; skip the goose fat potatoes.

        1. Strip House is definitely in my top three as far as steak houses go...
I think the strip is amazing, the ambiance is hip, and you wont be disappointed with the sides either

          1. Seafood Carousel to start was extremely fresh. Steaks were perfect. And the 16 layers chocolate cake doubled as an Ambien for the evening.

            1. I'm actually not a fan of the goose fat potatoes. I enjoyed the truffled spinach and the steaks. The chocolate cake isn't all it's cracked up to be either. Be prepared for a wait, even with a reservation.

              1. I thought it was a typical steakhouse experience, nothing outstanding in my mind but the steaks were reliable and good, sides delicious.

                1. I have to disagree on the seafood. I've gotten it twice and both times I was very dissapointed. Just didn't seem as fresh to me.

The steak is very good (not lugers but still very good). I always get the strip steak as I am always dissapointed in the porterhouse everywhere but Lugers.

My favorite potatoes are the logs. I don't think thats the name but they will know what you mean.

Finally the room is so much nicer than almost any other steak house, with the exception being Dylan Prime, that it makes for a great place for a date or other meal where you are looking for atmosphere as well as a terrific steak.

                  1. Skip the potatoes, sound better than they taste.

                    1. I've had their NY Strip everytime i've been and it is consistently the best i've had.

                      1. Only issue I had was a delay in being seated and then they attempted to put us at a table in the bar area. (the is extrememly low lit and other diners in the area were holding up the candles to try to read the menus). That's fine if you are a walk in but we had made our reservation at least two weeks prior. We requested to be moved and though they moved us, the initial response to our request was an eye-roll. General consensus on the food was that it was solid. I probably would have enjoyed the evening more had we not had the seating issue. Kind of set the wrong mood for me.)

                        1. been there twice and steaks are consistently excellent (NY Strip), but the last time I was there on an expense account dinner the service was a put off. One of the members of our group was stuck at work for another half-hour and they initially refused to seat us until he arrived. After waiting at the bar for fifteen minutes they finally seated us when we told them we would simply order for him as dinner would just run too late, but they did so reluctantly. Then, our waiter kept trying to upsell appetizers and later deserts, which may be expected at Outback, but not at a decent steakhouse. We're all adults and I think we can read the menu. I'd go back, simply based on the excellent strip.
