Its fairly far from SOMA, but Mamacita gets a lot of good press and personal recommendations.

Colibri is good, though it is in Union Square. The food is good overall but certain dishes are hit or miss. Bill Addison's review is pretty dead on in regards to ordering. Though I have gotten the halibut and found it to be delicious.

In SOMA, "ethnic" but not Mexican -- how about Mochica?

Maya and Tres Agaves are upscale and in SOMA but the food's too fusiony for me.

At least one very positive report on Zazil in the (ugh) Westfield Mall:

My meal at Zazil was ok but then I got the check and it quickly became mediocre. Service needs a lot of work. they weren't busy and yet I could clearly see many dishes sitting on the pass for more than 5 minutes at a time. My dish was lukewarm. Might have tasted good had it been hot. Weak margheritas. So yeah, ugh!
