What is a good restaurant in Louisville, KY to give a gift certificate to as a thank you?

Some girlfriends and I just went to visit our recently relocated friend in Louisville for a long weekend. We'd like to get her a gift certificate to a nice restaurant in the Louisville area (preferrably in the city). She does not have exotic tastes, by any means, but we would like to give her at least $100 to a nice place for a meal with her new fiancee.

Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

Megan

    1. SAFE: for romantic, Le Relais is fantastic. Lilly's is good, Jack Fry's is good. I love Equus. Also Club Grotto, Avalon, and Uptown Cafe.

A bit more exotic: RAW was fabulous, but might be a bit "out there." Napa River Grill is probably a bit safer. Limestone is great--it's away from food central in the east end. Lentinis just reopened to stellar reviews. If she likes Chinese, there's August Moon.

Safe, but not necessarily a great place for a romantic "date" dinner (also outside Louisville, but nearby and WORTH THE DRIVE): Rich O's Public House/The New Albanian Brewing Company in New Albany, IN. If they like pizza and beer, I would give it serious consideration.

        1. Thank you for these suggestions!

Lilly's on Bardstown Road. Absolutely fantastic--it's listed on HotBytes.

              Primo on Market Street...ditto.

              • I second Le Relais

                  1. I'll third Lily's and I really like Lynn's Paradise Cafe. The are open for B-L-D and do a mighty fine breakfast.

I do want to add that about 25 miles out of the city in Shelbyville Ky is The Science Hill Inn. It is worth a little day trip. The inn is an old girls school and has some wonderful shops and a fantastic southern restaurant. The main part of the school is the Wakefield-Scearce Galleries devoted to English Antiques. Most of the town is devoted to antiques. Food at the inn is incomprable if you like turly good Southern cuisine. The dessert of bread pudding made from biscuits and with bourbon sauce could make me crawl for it but luckily I have the recipe. Oh and from Nov through the end of the year the entire place is decorated fabulously to have the opportunity to live in Louisville and not know about Shelbyville (half way between L-ville and Lexington is a tragedy). We live about an hour and a half from Louisville and have not found it a hardship to go to Shelbyville for a day. The don't do dinner at Science Hill but for a leisurely weekend day it is a wonderful step back in time with phenomenal food.
